①子どもが欲しがったので購入しました。平成5年のマンガですから古本を選ぶと状態がずいぶんと違うと思います。
絵も平成5年の頃のもので、ペンタブレットで作成された物と違い、きっちりと手書きの物です。
1巻の絵は特に当時のマンガを思い起こさせる独特のものです。80年代の高橋留美子さんや鳥山明さんのような動きのあるものでなく、
ケンカマンガが多かった当時のジャンプそのものの絵です。今となっては電子化されたマンガを書かれる作家さんの方が無理な編集者の嗜好が入らず好きですが、当時は仕方が無かったのでしょう。
そんな中でも、るろうに剣心やスラムダンクなどの作品が後世に残っているので、和月信宏さんなど売れっ子になる作家の方はがんばられたのだと思います。
ヤンキー物ばかりで不思議な編集方針の時代でしたね。
ブックオフなどでは結構日に焼けていても、28冊そろいの古本で5000円程ですから、程度の良い古本で2500円程だったため良い買い物を出来たと思います。文庫も出来たため、どちらを購入するか迷うところですが、アクションシーンが多く版サイズが小さいと読んでいても迫力に欠けるため、通常のコミック本サイズをおすすめします。8.9インチのkindleで見られるならそちらの方が良いかもしれません。
②子供の頃最も読んだ漫画のひとつ
誰にでも青春時代に夢中になった思い出の漫画があると思います。
ドラゴンボールしかり、ワンピースしかり、
私にとってはこの作品がまさにそうです。
「勝った方が正しいわけではない」という
とてもジャンプ作品とは思えない台詞もそうですが
かなりメッセージ性の強い作品になっております。
普段マンガを全く読まない歴史好きの父親（当時45歳位）が
るろ剣のアニメだけは興味深そうに見ていたので
そういった層にもお勧めできると思います。
③こんなに深い物語だったとは
るろうにのジャンプの連載は、私が高校生の頃だったと思います。ドラゴンボールやスラムダンク目当てに読んでいた当時、るろうにはついで感覚で読んでいました。
Yahooで無料配信していたので、久々にと思い暇潰しで読んでみたところ、内容の濃さに仰天しました。即行でコミックをレンタルし、読みふ更けました。
登場人物の一人一人が自分なりの美学を持っており、主人公の剣心やその仲間達の主張に感動するだけでなく、悪役の言い分にも感心させられる事がある程です。時には山賊みたいな雑魚の言い分にも聞き入ってしまう事も。
私が高校生の頃は、とにかくビジュアル的にシビれる戦いを展開してくれる漫画にしか興味がありませんでした。戦いの前にキャラが自分の生い立ちなど話し出そうものなら、焦れて「口動かさずに手を動かせ！」と思ってましたから(笑)
人と人との繋がりのあり方、果たして血の流れる正義はアリなのか、など、子供に読んでもらいたいと思う深いテーマが散りばめられた傑作という事で、文句なく☆5です。
④絵柄・キャラクター、好みは人それぞれですが
登場人物の一人、少年剣士弥彦はなぜ死なないのだろう？
という感じで超人バトルに突っ込みを入れるのはナシで。
絵柄、画力、瞬間的な面白さや爆発力ではドラゴンボールや北斗の拳の方が
上かもしれませんが
最初から最後まで全体で見て、という条件だとこの漫画が
ジャンプバトル漫画の集大成という気がします。
小説、映画・ドラマ、数々の作品で繰り返し描かれた
幕末・明治維新そのものではなく
西南戦争直後の明治時代初期という時代設定も良かったのでは。
この作品で志々雄を超える悪役を出すのは難しいだろうから
京都編でオシマイにしても良かった、とも思いましたが
人誅編の前提になっている剣心の過去、前妻巴の存在も
連載前に青写真は出来ていたそうで良く出来ています。
週刊連載ということで読者の機嫌取り、行き当たりばったりの勢いも
大事かもしれませんが始める前の準備も必要なのかも。
カバーの作者コメント、話の合間の登場人物制作秘話やフリートークのコーナーが面白かった。
その他読み切り掲載もあり密度が高いと思います。
フリートークのコーナーによると終盤の人誅編、ヒロイン薫は
やはり・・・という展開も真剣に考えたとのこと。
しかしそれは少年向け漫画というのを置いておいても
相当後味が悪くなりそうです。
２７巻カバーのコメントから主人公剣心の年齢設定、
当初３０代中盤を想定していたようですが
担当さんの意見もありなんとか２０代に入れたとのこと
読み切り掲載時からだと２０年、
少子高齢化が進んだ現在だと少年誌の主人公でも３０代中盤でＯＫに？:

原作は勿論のこと、アニメ版も最高です。とくにOVA「追憶編」と「星霜編」が秀逸。
OVAの星霜編は、剣心と薫の最後が描かれているので胸をえぐられる思いがしましたが、
「るろうに剣心」とは、多くの人間を殺めたことへの贖罪の道を歩む一人の侍の人生が、
綺麗に完結されている。とてもよい作品だと思います。
